Project Description

Barb Erickson

Barb (Ramey) Erickson, a 1974 OHS graduate, has become one of the area’s most generous benefactors, both financially and of her time.  Along with her husband Dave, the Ericksons have dedicated their life’s work to improving the Coulee Region, specifically for those living with disabilities and for the families of military veterans. Barb’s passion to give back to the community and those in need stems from the death of her son Chad in 1995.  Because of the tremendous support the family received from the community, Barb believes that philanthropy is a way of giving back to others in need. Thousands of individuals and families have experienced the love and generosity that Barb has provided to the community.  When looking at opportunities to serve, Barb and Dave often asked the question, “What would Chad want to do?”  That question lead to the creation of the Chad Erickson Memorial Park, the LaCrosse Skateboard Park, “Chads Champs” dugout at the YMCA’s Miracle Field, sponsorship of the First Freedom Honor Flight out of LaCrosse, and much more Barb has served on the YMCA Board, the La Crosse Community Foundation Board, and the board of the Franke Foundation.  The couple has established several funds at the La Crosse Community Foundation.  The leadership and service from Dave and Barb resulted in their 2014 selection as the La Crosse Tribune Persons of the Year.  Barb’s legacy in this community is sure to be felt and appreciated for generations to come with what she has embedded with her time, love and financial support.
