Project Description

David Limberg, 1986 Onalaska High School graduate, learned from his father that it is “better to aim high and miss than to aim low and hit”. This mantra forged a foundation of setting stretch goals and achieving them no matter the adversity you face in life.

David served for nine years as an officer in the US Army. During his military service, David held various leadership positions such as platoon leader, executive officer, logistics officer, and company commander stationed in Alabama, New York, Hawaii and Korea. In September 1994, David deployed on board the aircraft carrier USS Eisenhower to Haiti in support of Operation Uphold Democracy. During his time as a captain (O-3) in the active Army, David earned aviator wings as a pilot in the UH-1 Iroquois, OH-58 Kiowa, and UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters, the airborne and air assault badges, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Overseas Service Ribbon. David graduated from West Point in 1992. While at West Point, he was selected as a Cadet Company Commander, Beast Squad Leader, participated in the West Point Power Lifting Club, and the West Point Glee Club. David, an active member of the West Point Society of Minnesota, serves on service academy interview panels for various members of congress. David has assisted numerous students, including several from Onalaska, intent on attending a service academy. He earned a Masters-of-Arts in Leadership from Augsburg University in 2009 and wrote a thesis on Servant Leadership and the Military Professional.

David held progressive management roles over decades at Target Corporation headquarters in Minneapolis. Leading multiple teams across the supply chain, environmental, and construction departments provided numerous opportunities to hire, coach, and mentor new team members as they start their career journeys. David is a leader for the Military Business Council at Target, an employee resource group providing career assistance and coordinating volunteer activities for veterans, service members, and their families.

Giving back to his community is a core value David learned from the example his mom set who dedicated years of service to Onalaska High School. He participated in multiple volunteer activities on behalf of Target including national programs such as Take Charge of Education, Hearts and Hammers, Red Cross Safety Mobile, Wreaths Across America, and Saluting Branches. He was the co-chair for the Minnesota Student Leadership seminar from 2010-2015, a Wisconsin and South Dakota Boys State counselor from 1986-1992, a youth sports coach for twenty years, and community board member for ten years in Onalaska, Korea, Hawaii, and Minnesota. David was the keynote speaker for the Onalaska High School Wall of Honor dedication ceremony in 2014 and always demonstrates Hilltopper Pride as a testament and connection to his hometown of Onalaska. David lives in Burnsville, Minnesota with his wife, Mindi and has three sons, Camron, Baylor, and Teagan.
