Project Description
While at Onalaska High School, Mike was Senior Class President and Valedictorian, recipient of the Honor Medallion, and recognized as Athlete of the Year after earning twelve varsity letters. He was a WIAA Scholar Athlete and a Wisconsin Presidential Scholar. He graduated from the West Point Military Academy and was ranked second in his class. While at the Academy, he was named Deputy Brigade Commander, played Army football and received numerous academic, athletic, and military recognitions. Mike attended Oxford University in England where he received his Master of Arts Degree in Economics. He then fulfilled his responsibility to the United States Army as an Executive Officer and Lieutenant of Infantry. Today, he is a leader in the financial world and was recognized as the youngest bank president of American Securities in Japan. Since 2000, Mike has awarded six Academic Excellence Scholarships per year at Onalaska High School.

Frank Pooler, an Emeritus Professor of Music at California State University of Long Beach, is well known in both academic and music circles for his mastery of contemporary choral repertoire. He received his MA and MFA degrees from the University of Iowa and did postgraduate work at Mills College in California and the University of Oslo. Frank sang, conducted, and lectured around the world; received numerous citations, honors, and distinguished service awards; wrote three books; mentored the musical group the Carpenters; and produced albums and composed music that have been awarded gold and platinum records. Frank wrote the song entitled “Onalaska” for the City of Onalaska’s Sesquicentennial Celebration in 2001.

Nominations for the Wall of Excellence are accepted every year in the spring. Past nominations that have not been inducted can be nominated for consideration. There can be up to three inductees per year. The induction ceremonies are held in the fall as part of the homecoming festivities.
